We are pleased to share this article from the City of Talence, celebrating women scientists who have shaped the history of research, from the pioneers of the 18th century to today's leading researchers:

"As the winning project of the sixth edition of the Participatory Budget, the mural created on the wall of the Botanical Garden, near Joliot-Curie School, features six portraits of women scientists."

We are particularly proud to see Valérie Gabelica featured among them. A Belgian chemist, she is internationally recognized for her pioneering work in mass spectrometry applied to nucleic acids and supramolecular complexes.

Valérie Gabelica joined the IECB in 2013 as a group leader. She later became Inserm Research Director before serving as Director of the Institute from January 2021 until the end of 2023, when she joined the University of Geneva as Professor of Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry.

Throughout her career, she has received several prestigious awards, including the Fondation Bettencourt Schueller Prize for Life Sciences in 2021 and the Inserm Research Prize in 2022.

Her inclusion in this mural is a fitting recognition of her outstanding contributions to scientific research and of her commitment to advancing science.
