Since its creation in the early 2000s, the scientific life of the IECB has been regularly shaped by the arrival (and also the departure) of new group leaders selected by its International Scientific Advisory Board (ISAB) (ISAB). In this context, the 16th edition of the “Looking to the Future” symposium (Events) took place on September 24, a key moment in the institute life dedicated to the evaluation of candidates for group leader positions. This year, six preselected researchers presented their work in chemistry and structural biology to the Bordeaux scientific community.

The event was also marked by the farewell seminar of Yaser Hashem who has served as a group leader (DR, INSERM – ARNA) at the IECB for more than eight years. A double ERC laureate (StG and CoG), he has made major contributions to the Institute and the ARNA laboratory through his research on mRNA translation in eukaryotic pathogens and their hosts. As he leaves the IECB to join the University of Hamburg, within the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology: Structural Biochemistry department, we extend our warmest thanks for his contributions and wish him continued success and all the best in the next steps of his brilliant career.: Photothèque/© Gautier Dufau / GD_photos
