The Young Scientists Symposium is a scientific conference organised by a motivated and dynamic team of 9 students from the University of Bordeaux. The 13th edition of this conference at the interface of chemistry and biology was held on 16 May 2025 at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB, Bordeaux). It brought together 95 doctoral students, post-docs and researchers. This exciting event provided an opportunity for in-depth discussions and networking, particularly during the poster sessions.
Thanks to a rich program, the day saw a succession of presentations by doctoral and post-doctoral students, lectures by 2 guest professors and a round table on the theme of “Beyond the PhD: Exploring Career Pathways in Science”.
Professors Gunnar von Heijne (University of Stockholm, Sweden) and Thomas Carell (University of Munich (LMU), Germany) each gave a talk on their research into membrane proteins and RNA respectively.
After a day full of scientific exchanges, it ended with a panel discussion on the theme of « Beyond the PhD: Exploring Career Pathways in Science » . Denis Dupuy, group leader/PI at the ARNA laboratory (Bordeaux), Ruben Ragg, editor-in-chief of the scientific journal ChemBioChem, and Corinne Chimbault, head of pharmaceutical development at the start-up Aelis Farma, answered students' questions about the various career paths after a doctorate.
Thank you to all the participants and to the super organisation of the day!
