SEMINAR MAY 18th @ 4pm
Prof. Rasmus Linser from TU Dortmund University, Germany
Will present a seminar entitled: "Protein dynamics, a design principle"
Motion is a fundament of biological function, with a complexity that has been creating hurdles with regards to both, human understanding and interfering. Pharmacologically, motion and hence function cannot only be abrogated. Instead, specific dynamic interdependencies can be altered, giving rise to medicinal avenues based on dynamic allostery, which can either up- or downregulate functionality.
Conversely, biotechnological targets, i.e. proteins designed to function within a specific, artificial context, can be improved by targeted modulation of their dynamic personalities. Here, focusing on a selection of three of our recent examples, I will show how NMR spectroscopy grants experimental access to and understanding of site-specific protein motion, which can improve our possibilities in drug discovery, industrial biocatalyst, and beyond.
