11am

The next IECB monthly seminar will be held on April 3rd at 11am

Dr. Emmanuelle Bayer from laboratoire LBM, France

Will present a seminar entitled:  "How and why plant cells communicate"

After completing her PhD in England at the John Innes Centre and a postdoctoral fellowship in Switzerland, Emmanuelle Bayer obtained a position at the CNRS in 2010 as a research scientist at the Laboratory of Membrane Biogenesis (UMR5200, Bordeaux).

In 2013, with financial support from the regional authorities, the ANR, and the CNRS, she established her own research team dedicated to studying intercellular communication in plants.  Her team is particularly interested in remarkable and unique plant structures called plasmodesmata.

These membrane-bound nanostructures (measuring no more than 20–40 nm in diameter) cross the pecto-cellulosic cell wall, connecting all plant cells to one another and thereby enabling intercellular exchange.
