|Education and science promotion|
Science and education go hand in hand at IECB. The staff of the institute continuously train over 40 PhD students from the doctoral schools in chemical sciences and life sciences of the University of Bordeaux. A good deal of IECB researchers also teach in graduate- and post-graduate courses at the University of Bordeaux and the Bordeaux Polytechnic Institute. As the a consequence, classes and workshops regularly take place at IECB.
Staff of the IECB also contribute to the production of internationally recognized pedagogical ressources (textbooks and multimedia online resources, see for instance the website Cell biology promotion).
Empowering young researchers
Young researchers (PhD students and post-doctoral fellows) represent more than half of the IECB staff. This dynamic and international community has launched, back in 2008, a symposium dedicated to young scientists in the fields of chemistry, biology and physics: the IECB Young Scientists Symposium. This event aims to promote interdisciplinary interactions and to provide information about the various career pathways available after a PhD.
IECB members (staff, post-docs and students) contribute to the promotion of science within society at large. They discuss major issues of science and health with secondary school students from the Aquitaine region as part of the Aquitaine en dĂ©bats programme. They take part in events of the local science museum âCap Sciencesâ and they open their labs for the public during the annual "FĂȘte de la Science".
