Equipe Hashem RNA processing and translation in pathogens and hosts (RNA-PT)
Structural and Molecular Biology of mRNA translation
- Unité d'accueil : U1212/UMR5320 ARNA - arna.cnrs.fr
We are part of the ARNA unit (Nucleic Acids: Natural and Artificial Regulation),
Inserm U1212 – CNRS UMR 5320 and we are affiliated the University of Bordeaux.
We are located at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB) in the city of Bordeaux, France.
Our research is focused on mRNA translation in eukaryotic pathogens and their hosts. We endeavour to understand the regulation of the translation process and decipher structurally, using CryoEM-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), and functionally its molecular basis and most importantly, the differences between eukaryotic pathogens and their mammalian hosts.

The team focuses on three signature tpics:
-
TRANSLATION IN MAMMALS
mRNA translation in mammals with a particular focus on the structural differences compared to parasites
- TRANSLATION IN PARASITES
mRNA translation in trypanosomatids and kinetoplastids with a focus on the initiation step and its unique features
-
TRANSLATION IN MITOCHONDRIA
mitochondrial mRNA translation in unicellular parasites (e.g. Trypanosomes) and hosts (e.g. plants)
