On April 12, ITQB (Instituto de Tecnologia Quimica e Biológica) welcomed researchers from IECB for a one day Symposium  under the framework of INTERBIO. Fourteen lectures were delivered by members of either institute.

The atmosphere of the meeting chaired by Miguel Teixeira and Cláudio Gomes was warm with very friendly relations among participants, despite the heavy program :

This was a good opportunity for fruitful discussions and hopefully the starting point for a sustained relationship between these two institutes. It is expected that scientific collaborations will shortly blossom and all the participants already agreed on a mirror meeting soon to take place in Bordeaux.

Foldamers are artificial molecular architectures inspired by biopolymers. They are defined by their ability to adopt folded conformations. This symposium will focus on synthetic foldamers, their design and preparation, the characterization of their structures and folding propensity, and their properties and function, with an emphasis on biological properties and protein recognition. Attendance will be limited to ca 100 participants.

IECB is part of a SUDOE InterREG network supported by EU.
This  InterBio project aims at promoting interdisciplinary research in the field of health sciences, with particular emphasis on technology transfer and cordination of technical platforms. Other members of the network are ITAV (Institut des Technologies Avancées en sciences du Vivant, Toulouse, France; coordination), BioCat (Barcelona, Spain), Centro de Investigacion Principe Felipe (Valencia, Spain) and Instituto de Tecnologia Quimica e Biologica (Lisbon, Portugal). Mobility of researchers and students between the different sites will be encouraged.
