Project leader positions at IECB – Bordeaux 2018

The European Institute of Chemistry and Biology,Institut Européen de Chimie et Biologie(IECB,www.iecb.u-bordeaux.fr) is a research team incubator placed under the joint authority of the University of Bordeaux, CNRS and INSERM. It benefits from the strong scientific environment of the Bordeaux campus in the Southwest of France. The Institute hosts 15 research groups working at the interface of chemistry and biology in a contemporary building (6000 sq meters), equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and facilities. The scientific policy of the institute is under the responsibility of an International Scientific Advisory Board, which selects new group leaders.

IECB is looking for outstanding candidates who will complement the existing strength of the Institute in:

• ORGANIC, BIOINORGANIC, BIOLOGICAL CHEMISTRY

We are looking for organic, bioinorganic or biological chemists interested in the development of novel molecular approaches towards the understanding and modulation of biological functions.

• MOLECULAR AND CELL BIOLOGY

We seek cell biologists or biophysicists interested in the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular processes related to cell division, cell morphology, cell migration or cell-cell communication.

• BIO-INSPIRED NANOTECHNOLOGY and MOLECULAR BIOPHYSICS

We seek biochemists/biophysicists developing innovative biological or bioinspired scaffolds or devices with applications in the field of technologies for health or synthetic biology.

• STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY

We seek experts in crystallography, NMR, molecular modelling or electron microscopy to investigate biomolecular complexes.

Applicants are expected to run independent and creative projects. They should be open to interdisciplinary collaborations with other groups of the Institute. Successful candidates will have access to IECB’s facilities in structural biology, chemistry, molecular and cellular biology. Candidates are primarily expected to be at an early stage of their independent research career (with 2-10 years of post-doctoral experience) but more senior applications may be considered as well. The candidates will be asked to apply for start-up funding such as the ATIP-Avenir programme, FRM "amorçage", ANR support or ERC funding.

Applicants should be fluent in English. Knowledge of French is not mandatory. Applicants are invited to submit - prior toJuly 17, 2018- a detailed biography and publication record together with a 5-10 page summary of their research achievement and project proposal as well as 2-4 references or letters of recommendations to: Dr Jean-Louis Mergny ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
